A hook is a curved piece of wire with a point, and usually with a bard. Most hooks have an eye or flattened end to prevent the knot from sliding off. Some popular hook brands are Mustard of Finland, Eagle Claw of America and Hayabusa of Japan.

Different fish, different baits, different hooks.

Variations in size, shaped bends, shank lengths and wire thickness. Most of the missed bites and lost fish are a result of wrong sized hooks rather than wrong shape or pattern. Match hook with tackle (especially the fishing line, but also weights and sinkers).
